HIT Mission Statement
The purpose of the Health Information Technology Program at Southern University in Shreveport is to prepare competent entry-level health information technicians with the knowledge, technical skills, and professional attributes to enter a dynamic and competitive workforce with nationally recognized credentials that would afford our graduates an opportunity in any healthcare setting nationwide.
It is the philosophy of the program to:
- Offer a curriculum that meets the needs of our communities of interest by preparing students to meet entry-level national competencies.
- Recruit, retain, and graduate students for leadership and supervisory roles in the health information technology profession.
- Enhance faculty development to remain current in emerging technologies and innovations related to the health information technology profession.
- Assist traditional and non-traditional students in preparation for program entrance and successful completion of the program.
- Promote the development of professionalism in the students by serving as mentors and role models.
