
TRiO Student Support Services (SSS).
TRiO Student Support Services (SSS), at Southern University of Shreveport is an assistance program whose purpose is to assist 250 eligible students in working toward their academic, career and personal goals with programs specifically tailored for their needs. It is a free program that strives to keep students in college, help them overcome obstacles and barriers, give them tools to succeed, and assist them in graduation.
The stated purposes are:
- Increase the retention and graduation rates of eligible students
- Increase the transfer rates of eligible students from 2-year to 4-year institutions
- Foster an institutional climate supportive of the success of low income, first generation college students and individuals with disabilities
- Support in continuing education
Students that participate will benefit from various activities that improve academic performance.

SSS is funded by the US Department of Education. It is part of the TRiO programs. The SSS Staff provides academic, personal and financial aid counseling, career advisement, group and peer tutoring, "How To" workshops, motivational seminars, cultural enrichment opportunities, graduation and transfer assistance, and technological assistance.

SUSLA Supplement Grant Aid
Grant applicants will meet with their assigned SSS counselor at least once per month for ongoing needs assessment and action planning. In addition, participants with 60 hours will be considered on a need basis only and will participate in at least three academic, technological, personal, and cultural enrichment activities sponsored by the SSS department during the current semester. These activities may include Academic Advising, Black History Debate, Financial Literacy workshops, Induction Ceremony, Tutoring, and/or Cultural Events. The current semester's Grant Aid Application must be submitted by 4:30pm on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, no exceptions. Participant’s folder must be updated prior to grant aid deadline. Application will be available for download Friday, March 15, 2013.

Tutorial Lab
The Student Support Services Program provides Tutorial Services to assist students with special needs. The tutors provide assistance to Student Services participants, volunteers, and students who may be channeled to them by other means.
SUSLA's Office of Student Support Services will begin offering tutoring in ONE LOCATION during the Spring, 2013 Semester. Tutoring in the areas of Math, Science, and English will be held in the NCR Building, Rm. 101. The tutorial lab hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.
