Student Support Services
Student Support Services (SSS), at Southern University of Shreveport is an assistance program whose purpose is to assist 250 eligible students in working toward their academic, career and personal goals with programs specifically tailored for their needs. It is a free program that strives to keep students in college, help them overcome obstacles and barriers, give them tools to succeed, and assist them in graduation.
The stated purposes are:
- Increase the retention and graduation rates of eligible students
- Increase the transfer rates of eligible students from 2-year to 4-year institutions
- Foster an institutional climate supportive of the success of low income, first generation college students and individuals with disabilities
- Support in continuing education
Students that participate will benefit from various activities that improve academic performance.
SSS is funded by the US Department of Education. It is part of the TRiO programs. The SSS Staff provides academic, personal and financial aid counseling, career advisement, group and peer tutoring, "How To" workshops, motivational seminars, cultural enrichment opportunities, graduation and transfer assistance, and technological assistance
Tutorial Lab
The Student Support Services Program provides Tutorial Services to assist students with special needs. The tutors provide assistance to Student Services participants, volunteers, and students who may be channeled to them by other means.
Tutorial Lab Locations:
Math Lab- New Classroom Building (Room 101)
Science Lab – Louis M. Collier Hall (Room 134 & Conference Room)
English Lab- Administration Building (Room A-51)
