SUSLA CDC and Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity Kids2College on campus tomorrow

SHREVEPORT, LA - Southern University at Shreveport, SUSLA CDC and Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity have initiated the Kids2College program at Linear Middle school.  Experts agree that middle school is a critical time for instilling in students a passion for college.  Tomorrow, May 3rd, at 9a.m. Kids2College participants will be on the campus of Southern University at Shreveport for a brief orientation, tour and mock-classroom experience.  This is another example of SUSLA's outreach to MLK area schools and organizations.

Kids2College has been building excitement about college in young students since 1992 and has served more than 70,000 students across the country.  Taking middle-grades students to institutions of postsecondary education helps students make the connection between the careers they aspire towards and the role of a postsecondary degree.  Schools that routinely take middle-grades students to local institutions have found that the visit helps students envision a different future for them.  Spending time on a college campus and learning about the academic and extracurricular activities available helps middle-grades students imagine what it would be like if they were in col¬lege and demystifies misconceptions.  Students leave the SUSLA campus energized and hopeful for their new future as a college student.  The college visit will place into context the economic and personal value of obtaining a postsecondary education.
