SUSLA Students Celebrates 2010 Homecoming

Monday: November 8, 2010 Open Mic Night
The Southern University SGA open up homecoming week with open mic night “The Spotlight” chairmen were Robert M. Lars & Cliffton Boykins while Cordecrio Galloway, Student Government Association Vice President, hosted the night’s event. ᆳport-Bossier has to offer with the band was Alter Ego.
Tuesday: November 9, 2010 Coronation
Kristen Davis was crowned as Miss Southern University at Shreveport 2010-2011 after each sweetheart of Student organizations on campus, and the royal courts from each respective Southern University campus was presented in the health and physical education building on Tuesday November 9, 2010. Her theme for the night’s occasion was “Stairway to Heaven”.
Wild Out Wednesday
Weiner Roast The Wild out Wednesday Weiner roast was hosted by local radio personalities from the Radio Group. It was an opportunity for our students to interact with one another outside of classes in a fun environment and showcase their various talents. Port City Jags Head Coach, David Francis exchanged his warm-up suit for a chef’s apron and proved he is just as good with a spatula as he is with a basketball.
Thursday: November 11, 2010 Comedy Show
This year’s comedy show featured local comedians Blacky Black, Jeremy “Scooby” Houston, and others. Special guest comedian was Michael Blackson, who portrayed the angry African character from the movie Next Friday, as well as being seen on Comedy Central, Def Comedy Jam and ComicView. KBTT 103.7 Tha Beat radio personality, Jabber Jaws provided musical entertainment between acts. In attendance at this event was the director of Student Activities, Mrs. Rebecca Gilliam, former SGA President Charles Johnson, and various members of the faculty, staff, and members of the community.
Friday: November 12, 2010 JLV Classic Tournament
The Johnny L. Vance Classic was hosted by the Port City Jags and Lady Jaguars. The tournament was an exciting one and both Jaguar teams took home victories.
Saturday: November 13, 2010 Parade

Homecoming Concert
The day started out with a parade featuring local community businesses and each club or organization’s sweetheart. The 2nd day of the Johnny L. Vance tournament started that afternoon. The Port City Jags , unfortunately the Lady Jags did not prevail. The week concluded with a concert featuring R & B singer, Avant along with rap artists Webbie, The Party Boyz, and Choppa.
